Sixteen large, bright red, discs will be thrown onto the water by artists and volunteers on the day. This is 'Chakras', a 1960s performance artwork by the influential Pakistani-born artist Rasheed Araeen. It has been staged in London, Paris, Karachi, and now Bristol. Photographs of the discs floating across the water, plus the discs themselves, will form a new artwork by Araeen.
The piece speaks to Bristol's histories of migration and trade, as well as the interplay of individual and collective experience. Festival audiences are invited to watch, participate, perform and be part of 'Chakras - Bristol' as it takes shape.
